More About Our Surgical Practice
We are a surgical practice that believes the operating room is the start, not the end of the journey. While many want to think about what operation is best for them, or which is best overall, we know it isn’t the operation. It is what is done with it. That means, learning to use the operation, and we find we spend more time teaching patients to cook than we do operating on them. Weight loss depends on your relationship with your surgeon, the ability to contact him when you need, to get support, in many forms. We think weight loss happens with lifestyle changes, and even though someone can change their lifestyle they will still need a tool to help them lose weight. To do this we have two great tools we specialize in for weight loss. The Lap-Band and the Gastric Sleeve.
We know that sometimes you need to learn more about the right foods to eat after weight loss surgery. It isn’t protein shakes, and protein bars (sawdust) it is food: delicious, fresh food that you cook. We help guide our patients through the lifestyle changes that should be adopted to conquer their battle with weight loss, through cooking and with the tool of surgery. Weight loss surgery, the Lap-Band and Gastric Sleeve, a very effective weight loss tools, but we don’t just give our patients the tool. We help them to make lasting changes that improve their overall health, and allow them to lose weight in a healthy manner.
Permanent Weight Loss
Weight loss surgery is not just another diet, it’s a part of a solution for permanent weight loss. Did you ever notice that many weight loss programs will include the disclaimer “results not typical”? With weight loss surgery, combined with lifestyle changes, the results are typical. A diet isn’t a lifestyle- but having surgery is.
Our weight loss practice is dedicated to the two operations we think provide the best solution for you. We have done the RNY-gastric bypass and the duodenal switch operation- we don’t like the malabsorption of them. The Vertical Sleeve gastrectomy and Lap band are excellent tools that can help patients conquer life long battles with their weight. In order to achieve the most success with their surgery tool, Dr. Simpson prides himself on offering education and tools to each patient, so they have the greatest success.
Dr. Simpson sees every post op patient, does all the Lapband fills and adjustments. We use that time to educate patients on how to properly use their weight loss tool. The education starts even before surgery with our pre-op class, but continues long after surgery so you can use your surgical tool effectively.
Long before other surgeons even heard about the vertical sleeve gastrectomy (gastric sleeve) Dr. Simpson was doing them since 2002. These were done both in conjunction with the duodenal switch, and Dr. Simpson was the first in the valley to use the sleeve as a stand-alone procedure for weight loss. He is also the first one to do these procedures laparoscopically. Dr. Simpson was the first dedicated proctor for the Lapband in Arizona. This means that Dr. Simpson is the one surgeon, designated by Apollo to teach others surgeons how to put in the Lapband.
